Artist of the Week - Maluca

Idk how I found out about this woman's music but I'm glad I did.
I don't know too much about Maluca but I do know that she was born and raised in NYC (oww NY) and her music has a very strong Latin influence. There have been many remixes of her song El Tigeraso but my favorite one is the Sticky K remix...it kinda sounds like an 80's video game but its uber bass heavy and everyone knows I love bass heavy songs.
Anyways, Maluca recently performed at the Museum of Natural History and based on the clips, it seemed pretty damn awesome!

Movie Review - Precious

The book was better. point ____. I'm not gonna give a plot synopsis because I want you to read the book Push by Sapphire.
To all the directors out there: Having a slew of famous actors/musicians in your movie does not make it a good movie. Monique played Precious' mother and although she was playing a serious role, no one in the theater could take her seriously just because she's Monique.
Mariah Carey: Can someone PLEASE tell me why she was chosen for the role as a welfare agent? I know there are light skinned/White looking good actresses out there.
At times it seems like it's a documentary. The camera angles and constant zooming in and out give it a weird unprofessional documentary feel.
Maybe I'm bias because I've read the book 3x (the 1st time at age 13) but buns, I still think the movie doesn't do Push justice. Precious doesn't go into details like Push does (probably due to time constraints) and it doesn't depict the severe amount of abuse that Precious and here peers endured.
It's not 100% terrible but I believe the story could've been better executed

Kaptain's Khristmas list

The holiday season is here! Times like this I wish Santa Clause existed just so I could get these gifts. Buns because if he was real I would probably be on the naughty list -__-

Nooka: Garbege Zub (Sold out but I want it anyway)

Obey: Eye of the tiger ring ($26)

Doc Marten: 1460 8 eye black patent lamper ($115)

Freakum Dress in Neon Blue Floral by Brian Lichtenberg ($262)

A Rotweiler (Priceless)

Movie Review - American Drug War

American Drug War is a documentary that goes deeper into the lives of drug dealers and corrupted government officials. Director Kevin Booth interviews Ricky Ross (the original one, not the fat hairy rapper), sherifs, former DEA officials and incorporates anecdotes from his own life to tell a tale of drug use in this country. It depicts drug prisons as slave camps and king pin dealers as pawns in a large game of drug chess.
Booth paints the clear picture that what ever side of the drug war people are on on, a majority of people are in it for money.
I couldn't find my favorite clip (naked man in a restaurant high off sherm) but below is a clip of a sherif in Arizona who is adamant on ending drug usage in his state.

Commercial Wars

I was talking to my homie recently and he pointed out that commercials are going hard these days. Verizion vs AT&T, Mac vs PC. Remember the days when commercials were friendly and didn't dare call out another company by name?

Haha "There's a map for that" straight shot at the iPhone
Still waiting for a PC add to compete with the onslaught of Mac commercials
Family guy does a better job at poking fun at Mac than a PC commercial will ever do

Can't we all just get along? I foresee the commercials only getting worse in the future

GIGGITY (Sex Therapy)

The things I would do to walk around Robin Thicke's mansion in lingerie and heels. mhmmmm.
Question: Is that a nipple at the 2:28 mark?

Eye graffiti

This is a story about graffiti artist Tempt One in California who suffers from a debilitating disease called Lou Gehrig's. He is completely paralyzed but he still has complete control and use of his eyes. Eyewriter was created so Tempt One could continue to tag places from his hospital bed. This is truly amazing.

Artist of the Week - Ninjasonik

Ninjasonik is a trio consisting of DJ Teenwolf, Jah Jah, and Telli who hail from Brooklyn, New York. I've seen them perform in both NY and Philly and both of those performances were energetic and fun, their music is very danceable...I do a lil jig around my apartment every time one of their songs comes on.
Anyways, they recently did a remix of Matt & Kim's "Daylight," you know, the song from that Bacardi mojito commercial, yea that one.

Coo's Lounge showcase

I recently attended a showcase at Coo's Lounge in north Philly. It was pretty damn interesting. Some of the performers included:
Aime - sheesh those tracks sound hard on good speakers. He really vibed out, dancing around and rapping intimately with the mic
Wordspit - this man was rapping, jumping/dancing and not getting tangled in the mic cord all at the same time. Uber energetic.
Shinobi Ninja - Let me start off by saying that the girl in the group (I wish I knew her name) is super bad. mmmmhm. Dj+band+tall dude+hot girl = Shinobi Ninja. I wish I could describe their music better. All I can say is that there was moshing and everyone in the room was dancing n nodding their head super hard. Good stuff mayn good stuff
