I Want You

I Want You is the 3rd mixtape from Brooklyn artist Theophilus London. It features covers of Marvin Gaye and Tweet songs (weird combo but it works). I don't have much to say about it besides it's freakin a and if you don't download it, I'm licensed to call you a fool.

I Want You but I want you to want me too

Artist of the Week - Cocoa Sarai

"He wants to devour me. Commit suicide. Lies hang in the balance as he dangles between my thighs"

Brooklyn native Cocoa Sarai's LP "1/2 Past Seven" is finally here! Honestly, this is the most versatile piece of work I've heard from a female artist in a really long time. "1/2 Past Seven" has a techno-ish track called "Ring," a song called "She Took the Night" which has a 1 minute long spoken word intro, and a song titled "Side Effects" which makes me nod my head and say "damn, I can totally relate."
I don't usually go hard for female R&B singers but there's something really captivating about Cocoa Sarai. Maybe it's her soulful voice or maybe it's the emotion that she puts into every song. Whatever it is, she's got me hooked.

When It's Cold Outside

Guess who has a new EP? Aime does and it's called "When It's Cold Outside." He worked with new producers for this mixtape (such as Paul Beats, Dannie Phantom and DCypher) which has resulted in a more mature sound than his previous work. It's nice when people's music grows up with them. Nice work sir, nice work

I'm Still Waiting...

"Now I'm the king, run through Queens like the E-Train" XV-Championship.
Nice lil MTA reference. Whoop whoop Queens NY

No, Vizzy Zone and The Kid With the Green Backpack are not out yet but it's ok because XV put out a new mixtape titled 30 Minute Layover to hold over all his impatient fans (such as myself). Honestly, this man can't make a song or mixtape that I won't like so...go download it.

Artist of the week - FKi

Atlanta natives FKi dropped their long awaited 2nd mixtape titled Blue Steel 2.0. They released the original Blue Steel about a year ago and although both mixtapes share some songs (Kirby, Satisfaction and Clap Ya Hands), the overall sound of Blue Steel 2.0 is completely different from its predecessor. Long story short...I approve! Nice work Raye Rich and 1st Down, nice work

Artist of the week - Mickey Factz

The 1st time I ever heard of Mickey Factz was on 6/7/2008 at the knitting factory. What a good night that was; I was hooked after the first song that he performed
Mickey Factz's performance energy is phenomenal. He interacts with the crowd, dances, I've even seen him stage dive.
His latest mixtape/album/EP thing is titled Dark Phoenix #Alpha. It only has 8 songs but all 8 of those songs are damn good. The end of each song has a clip of another song that's not on the mixtape/album/EP thing which leads me to think that there will be an #Omega sometime in the near future...I hope

"Why play hide and seek with me?"

I always wanted to make Jesse Boykins III my artist of the week but he's more like the artist of the year to me...

One year ago, Jesse Boykins III dropped The Beauty Created which was an absolutely delightful album that has my favorite song ever "Pantyhose" on it. Over the past few weeks he's leaked songs off of his recently released The Beauty Created REMIX album which features productions by Melo-X, Machine Drum and many more.
Let me say this: When I played this remix album for my roommate, she legit shed a tear. It's that amazing.

If you don't download The Beauty Created Remixed Album then you're slacking at life, no lie.

Artist of the Week - Aime

I've been wanting to write about this man for a minute now.

It's been hyped up for a long time now but Aime's Class Act is finally here! What's that thing they say about time and perfection??...Well whatever it is, it explains why Class Act is such an amazing mixtape. Homie put a lot of work into it and it shows.
What I like about Aime is that his songs aren't misogynistic or violent and he talks about real life experiences. As for the beats....they go HARD (whoop whoop D. Smith & whoever else made em)! Tons of sampled songs, I feel like I'm up at 2am watching PBS.
Anywho...Class Act is great. Support my fellow TU student/big play brother and download it here

The Leak

I'm super late I know, I deadass think I have H1Nfun.
Badio has recently put out a new mixtape called "The Leak." The song Doc Brown featuring Raye Rich from FKi has been on repeat, not because both of them are my homies but because I like it. The mixtape is dopetastic, and not just because Badio wears glasses, lord knows I love a man in glasses ;) Anyways.....download The Leak here

Artist of the Week - Badio

Badio...honestly, idk what to say about this guy. He says some funny/interesting things in his verses "if you go that pancake then let me put some syrup on it" (Monkey Out). The 1st time I ever heard of him was on FKi's song "Fresh Gear Uh" and I really liked his flow so I decided to find more of his music.
I'm captivated by his songs but I can't figure out why...I guess he's just that good. As far as I know he has 2 mixtapes Swag Central and The Progress. Check him out

Artist of the week - Homeboy Sandman

Like Fresh Daily, I first saw Homeboy Sandman at a concert at Blender theater. He has a interesting style, really playful sounding. His mixtape There Is No Spoon has a few hilarious parody songs. Song like Verbalsoulclapmania and We Can Fly has been on repeat on my ipod.

Homeboy believes that there is no spoon but I would have to disagree...

Artist of the Week - Chester French

I first heard Chester French on some GFC/Garbege mixtape last summer. I liked their song but I was more interested in other artist on the mixtape.
A few months later I saw their video for "She Loves Everybody" on MtvU and I thought "hey, I remember them, I'm diggin their music."

Apparently they're super smart and they graduated from Harvard.
Apparently they're really popular amongst the music community because they have artist such as Diddy, Pharrell, Common, Talib Kweli and many more on their mixtape.

Chester French are (ci)roc stars... find out for your self

Artist of The Week...Drake

I recently saw Drake in Concert at SUNY Purchase. His set was fairly short and he came off as a little bit cocky. None the less, he makes good music and he has a rapidly growing fan base.
Drake is a rapper/singer/actor from Toronto, Canada and most people know him from his role on Degrassi as Jimmy. He's recently done a lot of work with artist such as Lil Wayne and Trey Songz.
Drake's 3 mixtapes are titled "Room for Improvement" "Comeback Season" (which is my favorite) and "So Far Gone." Most people only know about "So far Gone" because it is the newest and it has the most featured artist out of all his mixtapes. I suggest that people listen to the rest of his music.
